5 Tips for a Very Merry Christmas for you and your Smartphone

Tis fast approaching that time again when that crisp breeze has just started to blow and the urge for sorrel, ham and freeness begins to gain momentum. It is also a time where we prepare to fight, not for the last slice of cake, but to hold on to our most prized possessions because with the Christmas cheer also comes an increase in theft. Hold-ups and shake downs become common place as our urban “Robbing” Hoods come to take from the have’s (read YOU and ME) to give to the have not’s (Read THEM, Tisha Baby mother #1 and Staci Babymother #2) Yea I get it, they want to have iPhones and Galaxys too, but if you are anything like me you would rather save your charity work for the Salvation Army so here are a few tips to help you keep you and your favourite mobile device stay connected! ...

WhatsApp’s new Double Blue Checkmarks proves controversial

WhatsApp recently undated its super popular messaging app to include a feature that lets users know when their message is read. I have coined it the "Blue Tick" controversy as social media and water-coolers worldwide have exploded with discussion about the new update and what it means. Some have welcomed the update stating that saying that the previous system of one grey tick to show the message has been sent and another to show the message was delivered to the recipients device was not enough. Now when the both checkmarks turn blue message senders will know for sure that the message has been eyeballed by the recipient. That is where the vocal opposition comes in as many argue that actually letting the sender know you have read the message is anywhere from stressful to an invasion of pr...

US Census Bureau and GSMA says More Mobile phones than Humans on Earth

“No other technology has impacted us like the mobile phone. It's the fastest growing manmade phenomenon ever -- from zero to 7.2 billion in three decades” Kevin Kimberlin, Chairman of Spencer Trask & Co, speaking on the recently reached milestone of there being more active mobile phones than there are humans on Planet Earth Yes folks it has happened already; there are more Internet connected Gadgets than Humans as pointed out in my article The Internet of Things – Our AI’s State of Connectedness. This fact is worth repeating, but this time using new sources of data for Mobile Phones, which have now BY themselves eclipsed the human population. Or do they control us already, with their bright LCD LED screens, Game Apps and constant Social Media updates? There are now more mo...

Android KitKat beats Jellybean in the Fragmented World of Android smartphones

Google on Wednesday August 13th 2014 has released their Android Developer Dashboard Stats and I'm personally excited by what's happening here; people are slowly warming up to the chocolately chewy goodness of Google Android KitKat. KitKat is now at 20.9% of the marketshare that represents devices that use Android, albeit technically this is mainly smartphones. All this excitement over data collected from Tuesday August 5th 2014 to Tuesday August 12th 2014, as the month isn't over yet Still it's a developing Trend. These latest stats are as shown below and are an improvement on Android KitKat 13% showing in June 2014 and 17.9% in July 2014. That’s another surprise; Gingerbread is still around at 13.6% and is a statistical outlier as it’s the third largest Android OS grouping instea...

WebOS now LuneOS for Mobile as LG begins to use it in their Products

It’s official, dear Reader! OpenWebOS now LuneOS for Mobile according to the LG Electronics Team working on developing the Platform to be the brains behind their Smart TV’s and possibly Mobile devices. WebOS had gotten a new owner in the form of South Korea based LG Electronics who had decided to develop a line of Smart TV and an ecosystem of connected Gadgets via the Internet of Things as described in The Internet of Things – Our AI’s State of Connectedness after purchasing the licenses for on Open Source WebOS Platform from Palm in February 2014, at the time owned by HP.WebOS, that plucky Operating System that got no love right before HP (Hewlett Packard) killed off their PC and Tablet business on Sunday August 21st 2011 as I’d reported in WebOS powered HP TouchPad for US$99 – ...

Samsung Z running Tizen OS fails to enter Russian Market hints at Caribbean and Latin American Launch

Samsung just can’t seem to get a break. The Samsung Z9000 ZEQ, more popularly known as the Samsung Z smartphone, failed to Launch in Russia this week of Sunday July 6th 2014. No reasons have been forthcoming, but based on the fact that this smartphone's running Tizen OS, it's not hard to guess the problem: lack of faith by Russian Carriers in the new and as-yet untried Tizen OS. This was most likely the same reason the Samsung Z failed to launch in Japan on NTT DoCoMo Network in January 2014, as the operators of that Network feared it wouldn’t' do well against Google Android based smartphones. Not familiar with the Samsung Z? It made its debut at the MWC (Mobile World Congress) in 2013 as I'd explained in my article “Mobile World Congress 2013 in Barcelona announces Huawei Asce...

Reviewing Super Secret Mobile Messaging Apps

So here we are... smack-dab in this post-snowden, post-wikileaks era, relatively fresh off the Vybz Kartel conviction and in a world where the rise and fall of the day's celebrities are telegraphed, televised, devised and demised by Twitter and other social media. In this hyper-sensitive age of information, buttons and screens and the need to stay connected are the orders of the day... but this itch that needs to be scratched, like any positive thing in life, is haunted by the darkside. While billions all over the world whoosh and swish messages from one end of the world to the other using apps like WhatsApp on their Android, iOS and even Blackberry devices, others bolt and cower in fear at the very thought of the NSA (or some other real or imaginary element of Big Brother) snooping at the...

In-App Purchasing falters as Freemium In-App Advertising Rises

“This suggests that – as we have previously noted - the early days of life are absolutely vital when it comes to ‘converting’ Freemium players on mobile. It is imperative to make every effort to put the right experiences and offers in front of players from the very moment they begin play in order to maximize the revenue generated in what can be a very short window.” Excerpt from a study by Swrve, Game Developer Consultant conducted in the First Quarter of 2014 For those of you aspiring Video Game Developers planning to use the Freemium Gaming Model as described in Smartphones and Apps – Freemium Games are No. 1, be it for Desktop or for Mobile, I have some very bad news. First Console Gaming is dead and dying thanks to Tablets and UltraBooks i.e. Ultrathin, lightweight Gaming Laptop...
