Jamaica Esports Initiative first Caribbean body to join International e-Sports Federation

The Jamaica Esports Initiative (JEI) has become the first Caribbean federation to be granted membership to the International e-Sports Federation (IeSF). Founded in July 2018, the JEI comprises approximately 700 gamers and the leading esports influencers in Jamaica. “We are enthusiastic about our acceptance into the IeSF, as it presents Jamaica as a forerunner for esports development in our region,” said Andrew Johnson, JEI vice president. International e-Sports Federation membership, grants Jamaica the opportunity to compete with 55 other countries in the body’s annual world championships. Your friendly neighborhood gamer Zalgo Cometh here again with some eSports news. There have been a few local eSports tournaments in Jamaica since the start of 2016. A couple that can be mentioned are the Flow eGames Feva FIFA 16 tournament and Clan Pro Circuit's Street Fighter V Invitational. Let's not forget some of the local tournaments held around the Island. Despite those tournaments, there hasn't been a break out major tournament since the Cyberbox C.E.L Games in 2015. After ESPN with ESPN Esports , Yahoo is now getting into Esports. Yahoo Esports will cover League of Legends, Heroes of the Storm, Dota 2, Street Fighter V, Counter-Strike: GO and more. The company today announced the formation of Yahoo Esports, which it's calling a "new premier destination for delivering professional Esports coverage across major games and events. eSports took one step closer to the big leagues today with the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network(ESPN) staking a claim to a piece of the growing eSports pie with the launch of dedicated gaming section of the ESPN website.
