“The Galaxy Tab S2 is not only our thinnest and lightest Tablet of its size ever, it also gives users quick, easy access to a wealth of superior viewing and productivity features. We believe the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is the most complete personal visual device designed for consumers to carry and use anywhere.”
CEO and President of IT & Mobile Division at Samsung Electronics JK Shin during the July 20th 2015 launch of the Samsung Galaxy S2 Tablets
On Monday July 20th 2015, Samsung Electronics made an incredible announcement regarding Tablets.
They decided to launch Samsung Galaxy S2 Tablet to the world in all its super AMOLED glory. Heir apparent to the previous 10.5” and 8.4” Samsung Galaxy Tab S Tablets as described in 10.5” and 8.4” Samsung Galaxy Tab S Tablets are Solid Tablet Products, the Samsung Galaxy S2 Tablet comes in two (2) sizes:
- 9.7” Samsung Galaxy S2 Tablet
- 8.0” Samsung Galaxy S2 Tablet
Then more recently, Samsung launched these Google Android 5.0 Lollipop Tablets in Manila in the Philippines and Kuala Lumpar in Malaysia on Thursday August 6th 2015. They haven’t reached the West as yet, but already plans are simmering for them to appear at the Samsung Unpacked Event set for Thursday August 13th 2015 in New York City.
This as information leaked thus far suggests that there is a third device as from the much-anticipated Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and the Galaxy Note 5 slated to appear at the Samsung Unpacked Event. That third device could be the Samsung Galaxy S2 Tablet, as suggestively displayed by the silhouette in their teaser poster above.
Since I already known it’s gonna be the Samsung Galaxy S2 Tablet, what’s new about the Tablet that’ll make it a compelling value buy for consumers?
And will Samsung be launching the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and the Galaxy Note 5 alongside the Samsung Galaxy S2 Tablet in Jamaica and the Caribbean as they’d done with the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge as regaled in my ditty The Future is Now as Samsung Galaxy S6 launches in Jamaica?
Samsung Galaxy S2 Tablet – It’s all about that Super AMOLED Screen
The two (2) Samsung Galaxy S2 Tablets are basically two halves of the same coin. Both are super sleek and super thin and super light, made from the thinnest metallic frame possible.
How thin you ask?
Both the 9.7” Samsung Galaxy S2 Tablet and the 8.0” Samsung Galaxy S2 Tablet have the same thickness of 5.6mm, but sports dimensions of 169 mm x 237.3 mm x 5.6 mm (6.65” x 9.34”x 0.22”) and 134.8 mm x 198.6 mm x 5.6 mm (5.31” x 7.82” x 0.22”) respectively.
They’re also incredibly feather-weight light, with the 9.7” weighing 389g and the 8.0” weighing 272g for the Wi-Fi version and 392g and 272g for the Wi-Fi + 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) Versions respectively.
So light, in fact, you’d mistake them for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge as detailed in Samsung Galaxy S6 and Edge at MWC 2015 coming to Mash up Jamaica as one-handed reading is now possible with their latest Tablets.
Speaking of reading, the Super AMOLED Display has a resolution of 2048×1536 (QXGA) for the 9.7” screen model, while the 8.0” screen model 2048×1536(QXGA) resolution display. So reading digital content, such as e-books, magazines, webpages and newsfeeds with a screen that shows 94% of natural tones in true-to-life Adobe RGB color standard is a snap, as they’re rendered quite beautifully.
No necessary scrolling, as the reading-optimization ensures a seamless reading experience. Samsung, clearly, is aiming their Tablet at the emerging trend of Reading on Tablets optimized to be like e-Readers, thereby helping book purists to make the transition from books to e-books and Audio/Video Content a seamless one.
Samsung Galaxy S2 Tablet – Musical Nirvana on the Go or at Home
From this point on, the two (2) Tablets seems more like Laptops in terms of their actual specs.
Both versions of the Samsung Galaxy S2 Tablet have ample storage to store all the video and media content using the H.263, H.264 (AVC), MPEG4, VC-1, WMV7, WMV8 and VP8 Protocols. The 8 Megapixel Rear-Facing Camera and 2.1 Megapixel front-facing cameras are great for capturing those special moments.
The 8 Megapixel Rear-Facing Camera is capable of recording at QHD with a resolution of 2560×1440 at 30 fps and paying back that video in UHD (Ultra High Definition) with a slightly higher resolution of 3840×2160 at 30fps.
Both the 9.7” Samsung Galaxy S2 Tablet and the 8.0” Samsung Galaxy S2 Tablet run on either Quad 1.9GHz or Quad 1.3GHz Octa-Core Application Processor with the Google Android 5.0 Lollipop floating on 3GB of RAM with the following Internal Memory options:
- 32 GB
- 64 GB
You can expand on this with a microSD Card to up to 128GB and you also get 100GBof files on the cloud via OneDrive for two (2) years for free, more than ample space for all your books and your MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA, Vorbis and FLAC files.
Playing Games like Candy Crush Saga and Angry Birds is made more interactive as the Accelerometer, Gyroscope and Compass detect your every tilt and convert it into motion without you having to tap the screen all the time.
You don’t have to torture everyone with your music, as with the built-in Bluetooth 4.1 BLE, you can synchronize with a set of Samsung Panoramic WAM7500 and WAM6500 Speakers at your home as described in Samsung Panoramic WAM7500 and WAM6500 Speakers with Curved Soundbars at CES 2015.
It also has a standard 3.5 mm Audio Jack so if you didn’t like the Samsung Level Bluetooth Speakers you got for Christmas 2014, there is an array of headphones that Samsung has for you to choose from as detailed in How Samsung’s Top 7 Christmas Gift List can make Christmas unforgettable.
Samsung Galaxy S2 Tablet – Navigation with GPSA and Glonass powered by excellent Battery Life
Thinking of going on a hiking trip with your Samsung Galaxy S2 Tablet and you need Google Maps? Fret not, as the built in access to GPS and GLONASS means you’re never lost either in the Rocky Mountains, the cold Siberian Tundra or just trying to find your way home in the Clarendon at night in Jamaica.
Know also you’re well connected, as depending on which option you choose, you can get Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac MIMO (2.4GHz/5GHz) or the same Wi-Fi with 4G LTE. There is Wi-Fi Direct to allow sharing with Wi-Fi Direct and the Tablet comes with a Book Cover Keyboard.
This turns into a standard PC keyboard with Trackpad, making you miss your laptop a whole lot less, especially as it has Microsoft Office and Microsoft OneDrive pre-installed. The built in Fingerprint Scanner means nobody can access your Tablet even when the keyboard is attached.
This Tablet seems to have been built for Multi-Tasking, as the Smart Manager not only allows you to check the Settings at a glance but allows you to run two (2) apps simultaneously, using a Pop-Up window.
All of these features use up a lot of battery power. Fortunately, the 9.7” Samsung Galaxy S2 Tablet and the 8.0” Samsung Galaxy S2 Tablet are both packing large batteries with sizes of 5,870mAh and 4,000mAh respectively.
Samsung Galaxy S2 Tablet – Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and Galaxy Note 5 are the stars
So if the 9.7” Samsung Galaxy S2 Tablet and the 8.0” Samsung Galaxy S2 Tablet is the mystery device, it better be priced affordably. Especially as Phablets like the Galaxy Note 4 already does the same functions as a 7” Tablet as explained in Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is a flatteringly fabulous Phablet with an improved S Pen.
Many coming to the Samsung Unpacked Event in New York City will find these specs interesting, as this can possibly be a suitable Laptop Replacement, being as a Book Cover Keyboard is included in the package with each Tablet.
But the real stars of the show will be the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and Galaxy Note 5, which like the Galaxy Note 4 may end up being also launched in Jamaica as per my coverage that happened on Friday October 24th 2014 in Arrival of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 – a Selfie-Themed Affair.
Still, if Tablets are your thing, then expect Samsung to launch not only in New York City but Jamaica as well come Thursday August 13th 2015 when Samsung Unpacks the goodies it has in store for Christmas 2015.
