Periscope finally gets landscape view

Periscope is somewhat of a rising start in the social media world. Since its launch on iOS and Android earlier this year the Periscope team has churned out features often and ironing out many of the kicks associated with their real-time live streaming platform. One of if not the most requested feature for Periscope has been the need to be able to broadcast and view in landscape mode; today that feature was added to the jubilation of many of its users (myself included). When we first launched Periscope, we only supported portrait broadcasting. As much as we’re fans of portrait video, we know that there are times where the scene you’re trying to capture is best expressed in landscape. We know the community has been craving this feature — we wanted to be thoughtful about our approach to e...

Filter Your Words, Not Just Your Photos

#Riverton. Since that fateful day when once again flames engulfed the Riverton Dump the usually robust Jamaican social media space was once again a buzz with over 17,000 tweets going out between March 10th and April 5th 2015 (stats courtesy of Topsy Analytics). Thousands of tweets and posts displaying an array of the emotions of the public spewed forth condemning all and sundry and the Twitter-verse was in a tizzy. Then came the announcement of Obama’s visit and BOOM! the local internet scene exploded. From hilarious videos, to online “polls” and memes the Jamaican social public let loose. But as I scrolled through my timeline and I tittered along to some of the more funny posts about the visit and the preparation activities I could not ignore the darker under belly of some of the posts...

On Monday May 26th 2014 we ran a story about the social media storm is brewing on Twitter after the official Twitter account for the Meteorological Service of Jamaica was ordered closed by management after an apparent disagreement with North East St. Elizabeth Member of Parliament and Deputy General Secretary for the People’s National Party Raymond Pryce. The Met Service has since released a statement that clear the air on the reasons why and how the account was suspended. The fill statement is embedded below. On Monday afternoon, May 26, 2014, the decision was taken by the management of the Meteorological Service Division to suspend activity on its Twitter account with immediate effect.  This decision followed several calls related to the content of some of the tweets and the percepti...

Twitter add Photo-Tagging and uploading Multiple Photos as Mobile Social Media Evolves

Twitter has decided to up the ante on Tweeted Photos, which we all know are worth more than a Thousand Words.  Only this time, they’ve decided that the more the merrier with a new Tagging Feature that’s sure to raise fears of Big Brother. Not only that, you can also post up to four (4) photos per tweet, both features that the Twitterati sprung on us on Wednesday March 27th 2014. Sweet! I’ve barely caught sight of Facebook’s new Paper platform for delivering News as I’d written about in Facebook adds Trending Topics with Paper coming to make reading the News easier when Twitter decided to pop back on the scene and remind us why they’re better than Facebook or Instagram, which Big Blue had acquired awhile back in April 2012. This isn’t some boring Logo makeover as reported back in J...

New Twitter Profiles more than just a Facebook-like Redesign

A new Twitter design is coming; if fact it has already arrived for a select few celebrity tweeters like Michelle Obama, Floyd Mayweather and the lovely Kerry Washington. The early verdict seems to be that the new design is just a ripoff of Facebook's design but those with a keen eye will see how much of an improvement the updates will be for Twitter users. Twitter's growth has stagnated in recent months but it still remains very relevant and useful. New information for profiles include a "date joined" section listing the month and year the user joined Twitter. However the big three updates for the new Twitter are Best Tweets: Tweets that have receiv...
