CCleaner – Keep your Computer Optimized and Sparkling

CCleaner is one program I believe should be installed on every Windows computer. CCleaner is a diagnostic utility software that helps computer users keep their computer running properly which in turn protects their privacy and keeps your computer from slowing down or crashing. The average computer these days are running so many different programs and over time all this activity such as adding programs, browsing the web, creating that fancy presentation for work or holding your stockpile of photos, music and videos will cause any computer to slow down. That is where CCleaner comes in as periodically a computer users can run the software to clean up all kinds of unnecessary junk such as temporary files, Internet cookies, obsolete registry entries, recycle bin, log files and more. I believ...

Dark Souls – A game that asks the player to prepare to die

For the last few days I have been playing Dark Souls, a fantasy RPG from Japan's From Software. I was unable to play the spiritual successor Demon Souls because I was unable to get it locally and was drowned in a pile of new games that were released around the same time in 2009. I regret allowing it to slip through my fingers as although I watched many a trailer and gameplay video of Dark Souls, I believe playing the first game would have better prepared me for what was to come. Prepare to Die ( a lot) I've never been this nervous playing a game since Dead Space, but dispite all the deaths (stopped counting at around 38) I was really caught up in the game. There is no set story to follow, the game kind of allows you to discover things and peice everything together like a jigsaw puzzle....

Dark Souls appealing to hardcore RPG fans

Dark Souls is an upcoming game Japan's From Software and is published by NamcoBandai Games. The game is described as a dark fantasy RPG epic that is extremely difficult but provides a wonderful feeling of achievement for gamers who survive it's dangerous world. Dungeons crawling with enemies, towering bosses ready to dish out the pain tied in with some unique online elements make Dark Souls just as big release as many of this packed holiday season's most hyped games such as Gears of War 3, Skyrim and Modern Warefare 3. Dark Souls has already sole close to 300,000 copies in Japan and many hardcore gamers in the west are anticipating it's release on October 4th in North America and October 7th in Europe. "Dark Souls breaks down barriers with a seamless world design that encourages exp...

Jamaica’s Lost Innovators – An untapped Source of Economic Prosperity

The late American Economist and Professor at the Harvard Business School, Theodore Levitt is quoted as saying that “Just as energy is the basis of life itself, and ideas the source of innovation, so is innovation the vital spark of all human change, improvement and progress.” Professor Michael E. Porter, author of "The Competitive Advantage of Nations," speaking on the topic of Innovation is noted as saying that “Innovation is the central issue in economic prosperity.” Examples of Jamaican Innovation I remember hearing about a young Jamaican who made a one man helicopter out of scrap metal and stuff he found lying around places like junk yards. The Chopper was opened using a magnetic strip similar to what's on credit cards. In addition to this, it had an on board computer along with a ...

Apple iPhone and Google Android – Helms Deep Under Attack

When sorrows come, they come not single spies, But in battalions. Shakespeare, Hamlet, IV, 5 It seems like the Vandals are invading Rome, only this time “Rome” is Cupertino-based Apple Inc. Better I say Helms Deep, as most are familiar with the Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) franchise and book (hopefully!?). The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg both independently confirmed the existence in the wild of a smaller, cheaper Apple iPhone. According to the reports, this Apple iPhone is half the size of the current Apple iPhone and will, curiously enough, be cloud based. Is it just me, or do I smell Gingerbread cookies a-baking? Not surprising that Apple is worried about the growth of Android. Ever since their meteoric rise from 8% of marketshare in 2009 to nearly 85% of glo...

Tools Of The Online Gamer: Steam

So with the premise of online gaming comes with more advantages than  just connectivity with one's fellow gamers, other aspects like the easier access to information and updates as once upon a time when a console had a software/firmware issue one had to wait until the next batch of that specific product was released with the fixed done to that new batch before that issue was attended to (of course we PC users were never really affected by such things but just giving an example) but now in several instances a patch or an update of some sort can be sent out via the internet to deal with the issue. This is just one of several advantages, but if there was anything that utilizes the best of online resources to facilitate gamers it would be "Steam". What is Steam? Steam is a gaming client wh...

Tools Of The Online Gamer: Hamachi

As gaming has evolved over the generations several aspects have changed, no longer are gamers confined to just their homes or arcades and limited only to playing with or against one or two individuals usually maxing out at four gamers total and usually limited to those individuals being right next to each other. The gaming realm has evolved and as such methods, means and habits have changed ever since the integration of networking and video games the gaming scene has never been the same, especially the PC Gaming scene. If your game does not offer/support some sort of network connectivity whether locally or globally it automatically loses a share of the gaming market. I know some PC gamers who wouldn't even consider playing much less purchasing any game that does not boast some sort of netw...
