New “Blast” service promises discounts for customers and exposure for merchants

Yesterday I got the news of a new service launched in Jamaica that promises discounts for customers and exposure for merchants. That service is called "Blast" and with its BlastPass feature can be best explained as social media meets discount shopping. Services that recommend products and offer discounts is nothing new, but one that embraces social media that put the power in the hand of the consumer is an interesting spin, especially for Jamaica. We'll be keeping on eye on Blast, the countdown on the website currently reads about two weeks before launch. Check out the clip below for more details on what the service has to offer and visit their website at blastja.com.

Digicel’s Impersonal Customer Care

A few months back I noticed a big change in the Customer Care service provided to you when you call 120 from a Digicel phone. There is currently no easy way to get access to a customer care representative and instead you have to navigate through a maze of menus just to find what you want. at this time the vast menus, which can take upwards of 5 to 6 minutes to navigate hinders the users ability to get any issues they are having resolved and I guess that many have given up frustrated and exasperated beyond endurance. The difficulty in reaching a human operator has reduced the sort of personal feel that many of us have grown accustomed to with Digicel over the years and serve to cement those who believe the company, now large, is rapidly becoming disconnected from the people who had put it w...

Foursquare Introduces expertise badges that level

Many thought location-based social networking services were just a faze but it shows no signs of abating. Foursquare is undoubtedly the most popular location based service with over 10 million users and the support of many businesses. Badges are an integral part of Foursquare and to that they introduced expertise badges that level up depending on the check-in history of the user. No, Foursquare isn't turning into a RPG but it's an interest twist on the badges concept that should be well received by badge addicts like myself. A post on the official Foursquare blog explains it better that I ever could. Check out an excerpt and a link to the full post below. Some badges are fun and some are frivolous, but the ones that get us most excited are the ones that reflect real-world feats, li...

Google Reader gets a Facelift and Google+ Integration

The "Google+ization" of many of Google's services continue, the newest convert is Google Reader. Gmail and Google Calender has recently seen user interface revamps and in a effort to standardize the "Google" look Reader has been given some similar tweaks and has had it's sharing options plugged directly into Google+ in a effort to streamline it's use. The update is currently being rolled out to Google Reader users so don't get too worried if the changes are not being reflected on your account yet. An update to the Android App is also expected in the very near future so Android users can look out for that. So what are are your thoughts on the Google Reader updates? Digicel Cloud Telephony to Make Switched Voice Extinct

Digicel’s Cloud Backup Service, which was launched on Wednesday May 11th 2011AD as chronicled in my article Digicel’s Cloud Backup Services – A deep Analysis has now some four (4) months later given birth to one of the Services I had predicted: VoIP Telephony. Thought late, Digicel Business, Digicel’s Corporate arm launch of the Service during a Media Tour of their US$600 million Tier III Data Center in Caymanas, St. Catherine on Friday September 9th 2011AD heralds the coming death of switched Voice Services aka Residential and Commercial PBX (Private Branch Exchange) Landline. Quite simply put, this is Skype meets the Corporate World. Instead of a clunky web interface you get handsets that connect to Digicel’s Cloud-based VoIP Platform and enables SME (Small and Medium Enterprises) to ...

Digicel’s Cloud Backup Services – A deep Analysis

Looks like that ChromeBook powered by Google Chrome OS smartbook I was planning to purchase this Christmas 2011 is definitely in my future after all!! The Cloud-based NC (Network Computer) made its debut on Tuesday December 7th 2010AD with chip maker Intel, and hardware makers Samsung and Acer. The previously codenamed Cr-48 Laptop, is to make its final polished podium presentation to the public culminating in a Midnight Sunday June 15th 2011AD debut in the US of A, as fellow blogger Kelroy heralded in his article “Chrome OS and Chromebook – Simplicity, Security and Speed”. So how can a Cloud-Based smartbook, as Google so affably calls their little protégé, be simmering in my crystal, ma cherie!? Because Digicel, the reputed “Bigger Better Network” (sorry, no ads!!) is banking on...
