Exploring the Path of Exile beta

Path of Exile is an action role-playing game from Grinding Gear Games set in a dark fantasy world. It popped unto my radar because many were calling it the spiritual successor to Diablo II, a game that sucked away dozens of hours of my life back when it was released. The open beta for Path of Exile started in late January and from following the media and news releases I was intrigued enough download and try the game and I do not regret doing so. Path of Exile is free-to-play but has excellent graphics and hack and slash gameplay that coupled with a unique gem based ability system is an interesting online game. The player takes control of one of six "Exiles" (hence the name) - a witch, marauder, ranger, duelist, shadow and my favorite a templar. The classes focus one or two of 3 main sta...

Vindictus – Free to Play Action MMORPG

So Nexon has screwed us all again. The Dragon update is out and it's not working on the East server; as in hardly anyone can enter. Things have been going downhill in this game for a while(more pay2win), but this is beyond stupid now. Four days and no fix to the situation and no announcement that it will be fixed, and no acknowledgment from the company that there is even a problem. This is how I am with Vindictus. Excited about playing the game, then going back and feeling disappointed, and encountering some new or old glitch and being bored of its repetitiveness and lack of content and leaving the game again. If you haven't played or even heard of Vindictus, it is an action based hack and slash MMO. A unique MMO upon launch, now others have entered the arena and have been arguably better...

Dark Souls – A game that asks the player to prepare to die

For the last few days I have been playing Dark Souls, a fantasy RPG from Japan's From Software. I was unable to play the spiritual successor Demon Souls because I was unable to get it locally and was drowned in a pile of new games that were released around the same time in 2009. I regret allowing it to slip through my fingers as although I watched many a trailer and gameplay video of Dark Souls, I believe playing the first game would have better prepared me for what was to come. Prepare to Die ( a lot) I've never been this nervous playing a game since Dead Space, but dispite all the deaths (stopped counting at around 38) I was really caught up in the game. There is no set story to follow, the game kind of allows you to discover things and peice everything together like a jigsaw puzzle....

Dark Souls appealing to hardcore RPG fans

Dark Souls is an upcoming game Japan's From Software and is published by NamcoBandai Games. The game is described as a dark fantasy RPG epic that is extremely difficult but provides a wonderful feeling of achievement for gamers who survive it's dangerous world. Dungeons crawling with enemies, towering bosses ready to dish out the pain tied in with some unique online elements make Dark Souls just as big release as many of this packed holiday season's most hyped games such as Gears of War 3, Skyrim and Modern Warefare 3. Dark Souls has already sole close to 300,000 copies in Japan and many hardcore gamers in the west are anticipating it's release on October 4th in North America and October 7th in Europe. "Dark Souls breaks down barriers with a seamless world design that encourages exp...

Might and Magic Heroes Kingdoms

Casual games are on the rise and they are coming in all shapes, sizes, forms and on every accessible platform. Might and Magic Heroes Kingdoms is a not so new real-time strategy massively multiplayer online game based on the popular Heroes of Might and Magic series. It is a browser based game that has players inhabiting an online world and teaming up or fighting over the spoils. Might and Magic Heroes Kingdoms puts the player in control of a city and tasks the player to develop their city, hire heroes, raise armies, slew monsters and carve out a piece of the world for themselves and their allies. Like most browser based games it starts off quickly and the first tasks are simple and easy but after the first couple days you can really know if you are enjoying yourself and want to continu...

Dragon Age 2 – Full Review

With new writers, art direction and gameplay Dragon Age II, the sequel to 2009’s highly acclaimed Dragon Age: Origins, is almost a completely different game so much so that it might be unfair in comparison if it doesn’t stack up to the original. Story The Good: Frame narrated by the blinged dwarf Varric you are now along for the ride as you experience Hawkes rise as the incidental “Champion of Kirkwall”. The story is made of grey morality meaning no one is good or bad it’s all up to your values. Neutral: A number of revisions to the cultures of the elves and Qunari have also been made The Bad: The quest and story progression is setup to feel that your decisions and life just incidentally lead up to the climaxes of the story but doing so removes a sense direction and making yo...
