JCCUL Shutters CONEC Mobile Wallet, leaving Quisk and MPay in the Race

“It was going to take a lot of education and information, a lot of building out among clients and merchant base....The league had to re-examine its strategic goals and the area that it had to put its resources. We had a number of areas that we felt were of greater priority than the wallet” JCCUL Manager Glenworth Francis commenting on the closure of CONEC Mobile Wallet Conec is dead, my dear readers. JCCUL (Jamaica Co-operative Credit Union League) shuttered the service stat began operating in 2013, leaving Quisk from the NCB Financial Group, and GK-MPay, offered by the GraceKennedy group. According to the JCCUL, they've redeployed staff from the project to other more important parts of the company. JCCUL is operated Conec through JaMobile Payment Services and developed wit...

KSAC to launch Paid Parking powered by Quisk and Digicel Business App

Paid Parking is coming back to Kingston. Not surprisingly, payment may also be powered by mobile money start-up, Quisk, developed by AISL (Advanced Integrated Systems Limited) and Digicel Business, the business arm of Digicel Jamaica. The KSAC (Kingston and St Andrew Corporation) is seeking to have motorists pay for parking in the following areas: Crossroads Downtown Kingston Half-Way-Tree New Kingston Donovan Samuels, councillor for the Tivoli Gardens division on Tuesday, moved a resolution at the KSAC's monthly meeting to have Paid Parking. There is a need for Paid Parking to collect the much-needed revenue to help with the cost of road maintenance as well as promoting law and order, both of which put a strain on the finances of the KSAC. Quisk, already mode...

How a QR Code Reader can add FLOW and Digicel Credit using Mobile Money

One of my pet peeves is adding FLOW credit to my cellphone. For that the USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) code is as follows: *121*[voucher number] # and send (like duh!) If you’re sending a voucher to a friend, don't text it, Double 2 it as shown below: *129*2*2#, Send and then follows the prompts (you really read this?!) If it’s already on your phone, then you can do a ME2U as follows: *128*[1876-Recipient's Phone number]*[25 to 1000 dollars]# I say “cellphone” as I’m yet to upgrade to the smartphones that FLOW is currently marketing as part of their Christmas Promotion as detailed in Flow Jamaica Christmas 2016 Promotion. The problem? Reading those small itty-bitty numbers where the “8” sometimes look like “0” and the other numbers can look like ot...
