Nintendo Switch drops Battle Royal Tetris 99 challenging Fortnight and Apex Legends

Nintendo is not taking the sudden dominance of Fortnight, Apex Legends and Battlegrounds Unknown lying down. Also, I suddenly have a reason to buy a Nintendo Switch, the hottest selling console in North America as noted in How the Nintendo Switch is the hottest Gaming Console in US History.  On Wednesday February 13th they launched Tetris 99, a battle royale spin on an old game that happens to be a favourite of mine. https://twitter.com/NintendoAmerica/status/1095811705089576960 All you need is just a maximum of 99 of your best friends. Sounds like a recipe for disrupting a school day. So how does this work exactly? Tetris 99 - Nintendo bests Fortnight and Apex Legends with this Retro Upgrade Basically here the game in a nutshell. 98 other players tr...

Nintendo Switch finally revealed

Nintendo's next console now has an official name and has finally been seen. The Nintendo Switch is the follow-up to the Nintendo WiiU and is expected to launch in March 2017. The consoles biggest feature is its ability switch from a  typical game console attached to a TV to a handheld for mobile gaming hence the "Switch" moniker. No news yet on the technical specs and cost but some of the games showed off during the reveal trailer include Zelda: Breathe of the Wild, an untitled Mario, Splatoon 2 and Skyrim. Nintendo has a hit and miss track record as it relates to consoles with the Wii being a critical success while the WiiU selling 10% of the Wii's 100 million+ sales figures. The Nintendo Switch has been eagerly anticipated and it will be interesting to see how it competes with the ...

Pokemon Go frenzy takes over the world including Jamaica

There is a new king of the Appstore and Playstore - bigger than Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram and more in-app time than Facebook; that app is Pokemon Go. The game was released in Australia, New Zealand, and the United States on July 6, 2016 and like contagion spread across the interwebs infection iPhones and Android phones alike even in territories where the app isn't officially released. Every has got to catch 'em all! Users were setting their Appstore locations to places where the app was released and eagle-eyed Android users sideloaded the APK file resulting in a tremendous strain on the Pokemon go server(s). Niantic, an American software development company based in San Francisco, California has been doing their best to keep the service online and slowly expanding to other countri...

How PlayStation 4 has Laid Waste to Microsoft Xbox One and Nintendo Wii U

As much as I love Nintendo, I have to admit facts; The PlayStation 4 is the most popular game console in the world since it launched in November 2013.   According to stats published by Sony, makers of the Playstation 4, they're in pole position when compared to the other major game console makers, Microsoft and Xbox One in the past twenty five (25) months: 40 million PlayStation 4 consoles sold 21 million Xbox One consoles sold 13 million Wii U consoles sold To put that number in perspective: 4 million PlayStation 4 consoles between early January 2016 and May 22nd, 2016 1 million PlayStation 4 consoles sold every month This makes the Sony Playstation 4 the fastest selling gaming console of all time. They may even be in contention for the title of fas...

Nintendo 2DS Handheld Console Announced

Nintendo is a giant in the video game world. The Japanese video gaming company is synonymous with quality blockbuster titles like Mario, Metroid and Zelda. Though it raked in big profits with its Nintendo Wii and 3DS consoles things are not looking good for its most recently released gaming console - the Wii U. Nintendo surprised the industry today with the announcement and reveal of their new budget handheld console directly targeted at kids. The Nintendo 2DS does away with the clamshell design and 3D capabilities of the 3DS and instead offers a brick-style design and with access to the thousands of titles foe the Nintendo DS and 2D versions of 3DS games already available. This is a very interesting move from a business standpoint but consumers and even industry professionals are no...

Nintendo and Sony vs Smartphones and Tablets: Post – Portable Gaming Era

It looks like I have what Jamaicans refer to a “Goat mouth”: I speak and it happens. The reason for my observation? A barebones article of mine on the slow death of Console Gaming titled Console Gaming’s Downfall – Future is up in the Clouds appears to be coming to pass, as evidence of its demise has now surfaced. In effect the so-called “Post-Portable Gaming” Era. A term coined and used here first folks! More importantly, the fulfillment of the chilling prophetic words spoken by Hideo Kojima, Creator of the Metal Gear Solid series game saga of video games that began in 1987 at the launch of the new Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker game for PlayStation Portable (PSP) for Konami Corp on April 2010AD in Tokyo. What did he say that is of relevance to my rant? He spoke thus, saying:  “In the...

Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword bundle offers Golden Wii-mote and Music

Nintendo announced today that they will be offering a limited edition bundle for the release of  The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword as part of their 25 year celebrations for the Legend of Zelda Franchise. The bundle includes a golden Wii remote and a CD containing music from the game. The bundle will cost $69.99 which $20 more than the regular game + CD so technically the special golden remote will cost 20 bucks. Limited editions, colours and special releases are a frequent and well received tactic of Nintendo but with the Wii on it's way out, many gamers are already looking ahead to the recently revealed Wii-U which is expected to be released next year.

Nintendo 3DS to get massive price cut

Come August 12 the Nintendo 3Ds will be $80 cheaper as Nintendo has announced that their flagship handheld will not cost $169.99, down from $249.99. The Nintendo 3DS is the successor to the super successful Nintendo DS and is a glasses-free 3D handheld gaming device that was unveiled last summer and released in March. On the fence about buying a Nintendo 3DS? Nintendo said the move is intended to "create momentum for the Nintendo 3DS and accelerate its market penetration toward the year end sales season, when the lineup for the applicable software shall be enriched." For anyone who was on the fence about buying a Nintendo 3DS, this is a huge motivation to buy now," Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime, continued by saying. "We are giving shoppers every incentive to pick up a ...
