Digicel renews A2P SMS revenue partnership with Anam for five years

October 24, 2017; Dublin, Ireland. Digicel has extended its A2P SMS partnership with Anam for a further five years to run to 2023. The partnership with Anam enables Digicel to secure its international traffic channels against SMS fraud and Spam. The new deal, announced in Montego Bay, Jamaica last week, extends the current arrangement due to run out March 2018 by a further five years to April 2023. Digicel had engaged Anam in 2015 for a three year term to filter, monitor and report on international A2P SMS on the Operator’s 31 networks across the Caribbean, Central America and South East Asia. Anam’s A2P ASSURE gives Mobile Operators the ability to detect and monetise revenue leakage associated with mobile messaging, while patented core SMS Firewall functionality also provides protec...

How to add Emoticons to your Facebook posts

As a big fan (an avid user!) of the Social Network platform, I’m still a bit back in the 90’s. I loved MSN Messenger and Yahoo Messenger, but I loathe its lack of social interplay and ease of use that Social Networks allow, giving me another reason to hate FB aside from the fact Jamaicans are apparently hooked on it as noted earlier in Jamaica’s Low Net Penetration – Broadband Internet A Universal Right. The fact that FB could also be fostering Social Network Prostitution did not sit well with me either, prompting another article in which I postulated the obvious in Social Network Prostitution: FOMO drives Millennials to “Inboxing”. Still, at least we have Social Farming as noted in Farmville Jamaica Live heralds the rise of Social Farming. Along with other development in the Farming Wo...

Google finally Marries +1 Button and Google+

Google has made a not so surprising announcement via their blog that they will be allowing +1 button users to share webpages with their circles, directly from the +1 button. The +1 although very important before because of how it affect search engine ranking just became a whole lot more important to users as well as website owners and developers. More info below including an embedded video. Clicking the +1 button is a great way to highlight content for others when they search on Google. But sometimes you want to start a conversation right away—at least with certain groups of friends. So beginning today, we're making it easy for Google+ users to share webpages with their circles, directly from the +1 button. Just +1 a page as usual and look for the new "Share on Google+" option. From...

Casual Games Coming to Google+

The Google+ train continues to roll with the announcement that casual games are coming to buzzing (no pun intended) social network. Casual games like Farmville are a big part of what makes Facebook so addictive and Google, not surprisingly, is wasting no time in introducing gaming to Google+. The implementation is promised to not be as chaotic as in Facebook as games will be confined to one universal tab when users can choose to access rather than beating back pigs and chickens from their profile pages. A phased rollout is underway as more and more users are reporting the appearance of a shiny new game tab on Google+. Below is an excerpt of what Google's Blog had to say about the addition of games to Google+: Today we’re adding games to Google+. With the Google+ project, we want to...

Google+ First Impressions and Free Invites

A long last my Google+ (or should I type it as "Google Plus") invite has arrived. After reading first impressions posts and in my opinion premature "reviews" ranging from "Google+ is garbage" to "This is the next big social network", "Facebook is dead" etc I watch inching to get my grubby little paws on an invite . Getting home on a geek high after watching Transformers 3 my twitter timeline was filled with Google+ chatter and a few tweets later an invite arrived in my Gmail inbox thanks to fellow Caribbean Tech Blogger @tech_tt. I giddily accepted and a few clicks later my profile was set up including a photo and I was about to start playing with sparks, circles and streams - trouble was my Google plus network was quite tiny... Easy to use and lightening fast The temporary ghost town ...

Jamaica’s Lost Innovators – An untapped Source of Economic Prosperity

The late American Economist and Professor at the Harvard Business School, Theodore Levitt is quoted as saying that “Just as energy is the basis of life itself, and ideas the source of innovation, so is innovation the vital spark of all human change, improvement and progress.” Professor Michael E. Porter, author of "The Competitive Advantage of Nations," speaking on the topic of Innovation is noted as saying that “Innovation is the central issue in economic prosperity.” Examples of Jamaican Innovation I remember hearing about a young Jamaican who made a one man helicopter out of scrap metal and stuff he found lying around places like junk yards. The Chopper was opened using a magnetic strip similar to what's on credit cards. In addition to this, it had an on board computer along with a ...

Twitter celebrates its fifth birthday

Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey sent the first tweet five years ago on 21 March 2006. Five years on Twitter is one of the largest social networking websites with a massive user-base worldwide with hundreds of thousands new registrations be day. Twitter users now send more than 140 million Tweets a day which adds up to a billion Tweets every 8 days— by comparison, it took 3 years, 2 months, and 1 day to reach the first billion Tweets. While it took about 18 months to sign up the first 500,000 accounts, we now see close to 500,000 accounts created every day. All of this momentum and growth often pales in comparison to a single compassionate Tweet by a caring person who wants to help someone in need. - Twitter blog

Twitter getting an Overhaul

The popular microblogging and social networking service Twitter will be overhauling the web interface of it's website starting today, with the entire 200 million user base getting the upgrade over the next few weeks. Partnerships with DailyBooth, DeviantART, Etsy, Flickr, Justin.TV, Kickstarter, Kiva, Photozou, Plixi, Twitgoo, TwitPic, TwitVid, USTREAM, Vimeo, yfrog, and YouTube will turn Twitter's web interface into a massive multimedia hub and transform and hopefully improve the user experience. Twitter CEO Evan Williams prefaced his announcement by mentioning that Twitter.com is already far and away the most popular way for accessing the microblogging service, commanding 78% of unique users (which the company defines as “Of all the people who logged into their Twitter account dur...
