First Impressions of Guild Wars 2

I pre-purchased Guild Wars 2 in mid April after following its development over many months. After playing a couple of the betas I grew to like the game more and more as I started to believe in Arenanet's vision of an MMO without the "trinity" (tank, healer DPS) where it wasn't about a mad dash to the level cap for raiding or waiting around for new content every few months because you have done it all, being overwhelmed by all the buttons to press or having the gear you spent months acquiring be useless right as you managed to acquire it. There are many reasons why Guild Wars 2 is a great MMO - it is free, it has a huge world to explore, vastly different races, classes (professions) and starting zones and an acceptance to all play styles and gaming times. Most important feature of all? Guil...

Guild Wars 2 Beta shows off a MMO with something for everyone

From June 8th to 10th I participated in my second Guild Wars 2 closed beta event, the one before that running from April 27 through April 29 2012. While I see definite updates and upgrades between the two beta events I continue to be impressed by Guild Wars 2 and what it offers to fans on massively multiplayer online role-playing games. With no subscription fees coming from a highly respected studio it is no surprise that Guild Wars 2 in the most anticipated games of 2012. The first feeling I got from Guild Wars 2 is that it is definately made by people with a lot of experience with MMORPGs. Personally I am still very much a MMO noob though I have dabbled a bit with vanilla WoW back in the day and romped around in Rift for the first few weeks of it's release. The bulk of my MMO experien...

Aion going free to play starting February 2012

Aion is the latest massively multiplayer online role-playing game to ditch the monthly subscription model. NCSoft has announced that come February 2012 Aion will be adopting the free-to-play model. The game has been seeing lower and lower playing hours in the last few months and hopes switch to F2P will improve the amount of persons playing the game and generate revenue through microtransactions. Rise of Microtransactions Fellow Geezam.com writer Ramano was spot on with his article titled Online Gaming: Rise of Microtransactions in which he describes how more and more Tripe A MMO titles are adopting the F2P model in an effort to remain profitable. World of Warcraft is the undisputed king of the MMO genre both in player numbers and profits and it still retains a pay to play model. Inte...

Mind you, it says the game is in open beta, but not to worry, that will change within the next few weeks.
