LIME Jamaica Mobile TV Review

LIME Jamaica is the first company in the Caribbean to offer DVB-H Mobile TV to customers and one of the first companies in the western hemisphere to adopt the technology. DVB-H is a subsidiary of DVB technology specifically designed for mobile TV viewing, featuring high signal penetration and designs to reduce the impact of the service on battery life. LIME Mobile TV was launched In November of 2010 with a free promotional period and from that time has gained increasing interest from the public. Within the first week of the launch many persons dealing in cellphones have received several requests for mobile TV enabled handsets in addition to the ones available at LIME stores. There are a few mobile phones and accessories not sold at LIME that can get you tuned into LIME Mobile TV: (more&...

LIME Mobile TV launches in Jamaica

As I (and apparently half of Jamaica) suspected LIME Jamaica officially launched their Mobile TV service in a glitzy event broadcast live on CVMtv, REtv, SportsMax and via the internet. The new service which is the first of it's kind in the Caribbean will officially be available on Monday December 13th 2010 as LIME positions themselves to take advantage of the Christmas season and gain an advantage over their competitors. At the show it was reveiled by LIME executives that the service will cost $250 per week which is a limited time introductory rate. The 30 minute broadcast became with various short skits and spoofs of popular local and international television programs as well as taking a few shots at their competition in the mobile market in Jamaica - Claro and Digicel. the "GG" refer...

A message to LIME Jamaica

This is more than a message to LIME, it is a letter, a letter of final plea to the former telecoms monopoly of Jamaica. This plea is more from the people of Jamaica than it is from a single individual, it represent the views of those who have come in contact with Cable and Wireless, Bmobile, LIME or whatever their branding was at any given time which, unfortunately, did little to change the overall behavior of the company to it’s loyal customers. All that was received from the company after these several re-branding attempts were: arrogance, insensitivity and general lack of interest, it is time for a change. The Message Cable and Wireless have been among the leading companies operating in Jamaica for the last two decades. During this time you have provided the Jamaican populace with...

Digicel Jamaica vs LIME Jamaica: Edge faceoff

I was able to use LIME's edge network for a day and decided to compare it with Digicel's which is the current champ. Since few people will use EDGE on a PC these days considering the price and the availability of 3G I did all tests on my trusty e71. The s60v3 family of smartphones lack a speed test application and the flash player in browser only supports up to flash 8, speedtest.net requires flash 9. This short coming forces me to use screenshots of the connection manager to display the speed but this shouldn't be a big problem. Well as everyone might know, Digicel was the first network to offer edge with Claro and LIME subsequently following. Edge is a 3G ITU standard which is currently known as 2.75g since it lacks some features of UMTS, that is thought of as the first true 3G system...
