Nintendo 2DS Handheld Console Announced

Nintendo is a giant in the video game world. The Japanese video gaming company is synonymous with quality blockbuster titles like Mario, Metroid and Zelda. Though it raked in big profits with its Nintendo Wii and 3DS consoles things are not looking good for its most recently released gaming console - the Wii U. Nintendo surprised the industry today with the announcement and reveal of their new budget handheld console directly targeted at kids. The Nintendo 2DS does away with the clamshell design and 3D capabilities of the 3DS and instead offers a brick-style design and with access to the thousands of titles foe the Nintendo DS and 2D versions of 3DS games already available. This is a very interesting move from a business standpoint but consumers and even industry professionals are no...

The system is powered by Nvidia's new quad-core Tegra 4 chip, has 5-inch 720p multi-touch display, wi-fi connectivity and integrated display. I am not sold on its clam-shell design and I'd describe it the product of a Xbox, Ps3, 3DS and Wii-U mating session. However, this is the most exciting but of gaming hardware news in a while, lets see how it develops. More details: shield.nvidia.com

Sony aiming to get it right with the Playstation Vita

The playstation Vita is the successor to the Playstation Portable and while the PSP wasn't a failure there are many things Sony got wrong with their first foray in the handheld market. Sony is aiming to get it right with the Playstation Vita while while leveraging the experience gained from the PSP. For starters the PSV is dripping with technology in the form of a quad core processor, dual joysticks and a big bright screen. The games list is already looking quite beefy and connectivity to the Playstation Network including trophy support is definitely a hit with consumers. Then there is the price $250 for a Wi-Fi only model and $300 for the WiFi +3G model which is very reasonable for what the consumer gets. Launch dates and games list The Playstation Vita launches without a region lock ...

PlayStation Vita’s US and Europe Launch Delayed until 2012

The successor the PSP has been delayed and won't arrive in North America and Europe until next year. The is very unfortunate as since being revealed as the "Next Generation Portable" or NGP in January and detailed at their E3 2011 press event the Playstation Vita was creating quite a buzz mostly due to it's specs, featured games and attractive $250 price. With the Nintendo 3DS stumbling out the blocks with lackluster sales, few games and having to resort to big price cut the Playstation Vita was expected to be in a good position to challenge for the handheld gaming crown if it could be available in the lucrative Christmas season. The Vita will be available in Japan in time for Christmas but with the west left out it will put a dent in the Vita's success, just how big or detrimental a de...
