“The Galaxy A5 and A3 offer a beautifully crafted full metal unibody, slim design, superior hardware and the best possible social media experience. These devices make our advanced Galaxy experience even more accessible to young and trend conscious consumers.”

CEO and Head of IT & Mobile Communication at Samsung Electronics, JK Shin while introducing the Samsung Galaxy A5 and A3 on October 30th, 2014

Samsung’s love affair with Metal apparently wasn’t finished quite the Samsung Galaxy Alpha as per my article Samsung Galaxy Alpha’s Metallic Band as Wearables will shrink 5-inch smartphones.

This as Samsung just gave birth to twins, so to speak! This trip around Samsung’s Blue and White Brigade of Designers have opted to go with a new Mantra: pedal to the metal is better!

Introducing the Samsung Galaxy A5 and A3 which Samsung Electronics launched on Thursday October 30th, 2014! The new smartphones, which are expected to be in stores in late November 2014 in time for Black Friday Sales in the US of A, are not only full metal unibody smartphones from Samsung but are also the slimmest smartphones from Samsung to date.

Samsung Galaxy A5 and A3 Dimensions – Slim is in as Samsung Bends it like Beckam

The 5” Samsung Galaxy A5 has dimensions of 139.3mm x 69.7mm x 6.7mm (5.5” x 2.7” x 0.26″) and weighs in at 123 g (4.3 oz) whereas the 4.5” Samsung Galaxy A3 has dimensions of 130.1 x 65.5 x 6.9mm (5.1” x 2.6” x 0.27”) with a weight of 110.3 g (3.9 oz).

If thickness of 6.7mm (0.26″) and 6.9mm (0.27″) for the Samsung Galaxy A5 and A3 respectively isn’t considered a candidacy for competition to Apple Bendgate, then I don’t know what is, as at those gauge thickness, Samsung is literally Bending it like Beckham! A Skittles Rainbow of choice awaits the potential buyers of the Samsung Galaxy A3 and A5:

  • Champagne Gold
  • Light Blue
  • Midnight Black
  • Pearl White
  • Platinum Silver
  • Soft Pink

Even more interesting is that both smartphones sport the same Android 4.4 aka KitKat OS, 1.2GHz Quad-Core Processor, 16GB of Internal Memory with the option to expand to 64GB using a Micro SD Card Slot. From there the two (2) twins are merely fraternal, with their own distinct screen sizes and resolution, Camera Megapixel and RAM and fairly low Battery life. A chart explains this quite nicely!

Samsung Galaxy A3 and A5 – Selfie Taking Feature Rich Goodness baked in quite nicely

What impresses me about these smartphones is that they’re great selfie cameras, whether you’re using the Front Facing or Rear Facing Cameras, 5 Megapixels being the new standard for Front-Facing Cameras. To support this view, the Samsung Galaxy A3 and A5 both come with software that allows for the easy detection of your face and even takes a few years off your age:

  • Wide Selfie
  • Palm Selfie
  • Animated GIF
  • Beauty Face Features
  • Rear-cam Selfie

The Super AMOLED Screen on these pair of smartphones makes viewing the selfies even more lifelike, with Adaptive Display Technology that makes every picture look like a work of art, even when the sun beats down mercilessly on your screen. For the social-media savvy, there is the super fast 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution), 3G HSPA and Wi-Fi Options for Internet connectivity to rapidly share your photos as you take them.

Like the Samsung Galaxy Alpha or even the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 as detailed in my article Arrival of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 – a Selfie-Themed Affair, the Samsung Galaxy A5 and A3 has similar options:

  • Ultra-Power Saving Mode to conserve battery life
  • Private Mode to keep work and home life separate
  • Multi-screen to allow the smartphone to take advantage of the 1.2 GHz Quad-Core Processor capabilities to multi-task

The 5” Samsung Galaxy A5 and 4.5” Samsung Galaxy A3 will launch in November 2014 in the Far East and China after which the rest of the world gets to try out these Selfie-Fraternal Bobsey Twins. No word on pricing or when they’ll be in Jamaica or even the Latin American region, but I’m willing to bet based on specs it’s in the same ballpark as their father, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha!
