As people become more dependent on the internet for everyday activities, telecommunications company LIME is again providing access to its customers, this time with the introduction of a personal mobile-broadband router called ‘MiFi’, which allows up to five devices to connect to the internet at the same time.

Ideal for small-businesses, individuals, families and small student working groups etc, the Huawei® E586, is a light-weight portable modem that works at a distance of up to 10m (30ft) and provides simultaneous internet access to Wi-Fi enabled devices such as laptops, tablets, media players, digital cameras and video game consoles.

The Huawei Mifi device, which allows internal connectivity for up to five devices will be available on the LIME 3G network in December 2011.

According to Garry Sinclair, LIME’s Managing Director for Jamaica & Cayman, the increase of portable internet access devices such as iPads and other tablets as well as Wi-Fi enabled smartphones has been driving a demand for wireless internet service.

The Huawei® E586, which will be available in December, utilises the LIME Mobile Data network and offers up to 3G connectivity speed across the island for any Wi-Fi-enabled fixed and portable device.

The MiFi device is designed to help bridge the digital divide by providing opportunities to enjoy broadband internet services, regardless of geographic location.

  1. I’ve actually been testing that device used it a couple months a go.. a friend of mine works for Huawei :).. i’m wondering when they gonna bring the Ideos Tablet and Ideos phone to market.

  2. Guess LIME is not worried about peopel freeloading off their 3G Network. Or possibly, they are acknowledging the coming dominance of Municipal Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11n) providers such as Dekal Wireless, which is slowly making people wonder why they have to shell out JA$3500 for a modem when they can use the Wi-Fi radio already built into most smartphones and laptops!!
