Today, on Thursday July 28th 2016, I visited the Huawei Experience Store at 10am in excited anticipation of doing yet another review of another smartrphone.
I was soon to be treated to an exciting treat, as not only was I able to review yet another beauty, the Huawei P8 Lite, but I also go some hands-on with the Huawei TalkBand B2 and the Huawei Watch. The Huawei P8 Lite will set you back JA$41,188 at the Digicel Store, but the Huawei Experience Store has it cheaper at JA$35,000!
So it’s with much excitement that I announced that I have a total of three (3) article planned. This is for my dear readers, who like me, are fans of the Dual-SIM revolution sweeping Jamaica as opined in The Huawei Experience Store and their Unlocked Dual-SIM Smartphones.
So here goes absolutely nothing!
Huawei P8 Lite – Black White and Gold Metallic Luxury
Launched back in May 2015, the Huawei P8 Lite is an all-metal smartphone crafted as a gift to the Gods! It comes stocked with a booklet, standard USB Charger and a SIM Card removal tool!
The 131 g (4.62 oz) with dimensions of 143 x 70.6 x 7.7 mm (5.63 x 2.78 x 0.30 in) runs Android 5.0 Lollipop which is upgradable to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The Huawei P8 Lite is available in the following colours:
It has gold and silver accents at the sides and has curved corners and a front and back side that are completely flat. The curved edges make this phone look luxurious and at a price of JA$35000 inclusive of Tax at the Huawei store, it certainly is a luxury! The control buttons are raised slightly off the sides of the P8 Lite and are easy to feel for even in the dark.
The top edges has a 3.5mm jack and the bottom edges has dual audio speakers with a premium looking grille. The right edge houses a volume rocker and a power/control key below and the two (2) tray slots for a 32GB microSD card and a SIM card lie on the same side as these keys.
The back is made of matte plastic texturized with a horizontal hairline pattern. Huawei, however, made sure that the area surrounding the camera lens and flash was slick and glossy.
The Corning Gorilla Glass makes the Emotion 3.1 UI look friendlier as the 5″ IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen renders images beautifully at resolutions as high as 720 x 1280 pixels. The display is bright, has a wide viewing angle and is responsive to touch.
This dual-SIM beauty uses a micro and nano SIM, one of which can double as a microSD card reader. The Android 5.0 Lollipop floats on an Octa-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 that sits neatly in a HiSilicon Kirin 620 chipset that get support from a Mali-450MP4 that does all the Graphics heavy-lifting.
That Octa-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 beast is rather light on its feet, using only 2 GB of RAM with 16 GB of Internal Storage for all your apps and music. The microSD card can support up to 256 GB once you co-opt that SIM slot 2 instead of using it for another SIM Card.
With that much storage, the Huawei P8 Lite’s 13 Megapixels Rear-facing shooter makes a great Camera, with the following bells and whistles:
- Touch focus
- Face/smile detection
- HDR (High Dynamic Range)
It also shoots great 1080p video at 30fps.The selfie ready 5 Megapixel Camera does 720 p video, making sure you look high def even without much on for your Snapchat peeps!
