Installation screen

After installation you are presented with an easy to use window that shows basic information on signal, the status of your usb dongle and allows you to easily disconnect and connect to the internet. I would mostly recommend the USB modem to those who have a laptop and move about on a regular basis since the speeds are close to the speed offered by the CPE and is faster than most wifi solutions out there.

CPE Modem and USB Dongle

Conclusion: The modems are clearly for different situations although I believe the usability of the usb dongle somehow overlaps into the CPE domain (fixed indoor use) especially if you are living in an area with good or excellent wimax signal.

  1. Appreciate the info- this is very useful for deep rural users like me who are often left out because we aren’t in Kingston. I really want to invest in a Digicel modem to access the 4G speed but do not want my money wasted. Looking forward to the upcoming articles, especially the maps.

  2. Actually the overall performance have decreased drastically since I wrote this review some months ago. I should have written a follow up review a few months ago but did not have the time.

  3. OK. Should I wait for yur next review before purchase? A colleague of mine bought the CPE modem recently and so far is satisfied. But he’s in St. Ann’s Bay –I’m more rural than he, so am still being cautious. If signal strength is dropping, I may be worst off. Maybe U could give Digicel a heads up for us.

  4. I like in Treadways, 4km north east of the Linstead tower and my modem have to be on the roof to get any connection :).. But that is not it, I am getting RSSi -79 or just about 2 bars, however I only get 74kbps max and 34 kbps under normal circumstances… it has become that bad in my area.

I dont want to burst you bubble but wait till my final wrap up in the first month of the new year.

  5. Anyone knows if I can configure the CPE modem and then plug it into the car cigarette lighter outlet to get WiFi on the Go?
