Tech tutorials, howtos and walkthroughs

Christmas’s past I’ve suggested gadgets that’ll make the office fun and terrorize your pets! Christmas 2011 brings back memories of the Yapper Zapper gadget I’d suggested in Yapper Zapper is the illegal must-have gift for the New Year.

PowerUp 3.0 module

So I’ve decided to go off the beaten track again this year in suggesting a must-have Gadget that’s in the same vein as the Yapper Zapper of olde. This time it’s in the guise of yet another Kickstarter darling, the PowerUp 3.0 smartphone-controlled paper airplane kit . Yes, it’s a smartphone toy like the Sphero Robotic Ball as described in The Apple iPhone as a Remote – The R2-D2 Effect of Orbotic’s Sphero Robotic Ball and it flies like the Griffin HELO T Helicopter as described in US$60 Griffin HELO TC Helicopter at CES 2012.

What it really portents to be is a carbon fiber Propeller kit that can been attached to any paper plane and turns it into an Apple iPhone controlled airplane that stays aloft for ten (10) minutes on a single charge! The electronics package in the PowerUp 3.0 smartphone-controlled paper airplane kit attaches to the head of the paper plane and powers the Propeller via a rechargeable battery.

The brains of the PowerUp 3.0 smartphone-controlled paper airplane kit supplies your Apple iPhone via a Bluetooth connection with info on thrust, range and direction via a battery of sensors that include a magnetometer and GPS. Like a game of Microsoft Flight simulator as described in Microsoft Flight Simulator goes Freemium – Phoenix takes Flight in the Spring of 2012 the iOS app supplies an artificial horizon, leaving you the pilot to control steering by tilting the smartphone by making the accelerometer communicate your navigation tilts to your Bird of Prey, Star Trek Style.

After all, that’s what it good for doing in ten minutes of your Break time; terrorizing your co-workers in their cubicles or lounging around in the Cafeteria with a Paper Plane that they just can’t grab and rip to shreds!

This year the stocking stuffer list was nauseatingly dominated by smartphones, Tablets and other Computing Gadgets such as the as trotted out for the Google Chrome lovers in The US$279 HP Chromebook 11 is a great Christmas present for Millennials. The most purchase Computer in any category on Amazon for two (2) years running has been the Hard-Drive less, cloud-based motley crue of Google Chromebooks slowly being trotted out by PC makers thumbing up their noses at Windows 8!

So forgive me for being childish, but if you don’t want your office party to be boring, the US$40 to purchased this PowerUp 3.0 smartphone-controlled paper airplane kit for the Apple iPhone toting Crowd would make you the Paper Plan Top Gun……and yes, terrorize your Cat all over again!

Merry Christmas when it comes dear Readers of Geezam. Happy Trails!
