General Manager for TVJ and Cable Services, Claire Grant commenting on the partnership with ReadyTV
The RJRGLEANER Communications Group and ReadyTV have entered an agreement that will see TVJ aired in High Definition (HD) on the Ready TV digital broadcast network. They will also launch an RG Pack that will add the following choices ReadyTV currently offers:
- TVJ Sports Network
- RETV (Reggae Entertainment Television)
- JNN (Jamaica News Network)
The three popular local cable channels will join Jamaica’s number one Free To Air TV channel, TVJ, offering the best local content and international products, especially in sports, all broadcast for the first time in HD.
Ms. Grant said that there are other opportunities being explored and hinted that “there is more to come” in the relationship. “The RG Pack on Ready TV will help meet another component of our Group strategy to continue making quality local programmes and making them available on all platforms, in the best quality, to the widest audience”, said Ms. Grant.

TVJ is offered as one of ReadyTV’s 10 free view HD TV channels, along with a wide menu of other affordable subscription channel packages as listed in the article ReadyTV’s prepaid cable TV comes with 10 free digital TV channels. ReadyTV’s prepaid service allows customers to purchase subscription channel packages for 1, 7 or 30 days at a time.
Ready TV’s Co-CEO, Christopher Dehring said, “the RG Pack will be sold for $50 for one day, $100 for a week and $150 for a month which is a very attractive deal when one considers the great content on these channels, especially during the football world cup that starts in a few days time”.

This may be a precursor to TVJ going DTT in 2021.
Clearly TVJ is experimenting with DTT (Digital Terrestrial Television) by seeing how well it works on ReadyTV’s platform. They are feeling pressure from ReadyTV as predicted in ReadyTv launch challenges CVMTV, Television Jamaica to go DTT by 2018.
