Tech tutorials, howtos and walkthroughs

At a press event in Japan in January Sony unveiled the “true” successor to the Playstation Portable. Other than showing off the sexy hardware and couple fancy videos there wasn’t a lot of information for the device with the code name “Next Generation Portable” or “NGP”. At their press event at the E3 2011 Sony revealed lots more about the NGP starting with it’s finalized name the Playstation Vita.

Why that name?

“Vita” means “life” in Latin and Sony explain’s the name saying “…it enables a revolutionary combination of rich gaming and social connectivity within a real world context. By blurring the lines between interactive entertainment and reality, our goal was to design a device that offered a revolutionary combination of rich gaming capabilities and social connectivity, bringing users closer to each other and closer to their gaming experiences wherever they are…”

Pricing, availability and Games

The WiFi model of the Vita will cost $249 while the 3G model (powered by AT&T in the United States) costing $299. The system will be available in the United States this holiday season. As expected a plethora of first party and third party games were announced and shown including Call of Duty, Dynasty Warriors, Everybody’s Golf, Little Big Planet, Street Fighter X Tekken, Silent Hill: Book of Memories, Killzone, Metal Gear Solid, Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Yakuza.
