It came as somewhat as a surprise recently when LIME announced that it was bringing the iPhone 4 to Jamaica and the rest of the Caribbean. That announcement became closer to reality today with the news that June 14th will be the day and it will be interesting to analyse the interest in the device here in Jamaica.
Lookout Blackberry, will the iPhone become the new trend?
The Blackberry is king in Jamaica and the reasons why that is so was analyzed in an article last year by Geezam.com writer Horace in an article entitled “Why are Blackberries so Popular?“. Basically Blackberries are popular because of blackberry Messenger and cheaper taylored data plans that are unavailable for other devices. Will Blackberry’s reign in Jamaica come to an end? Only time will tell and it’s up to LIME to do a better job promoting the capabilities of the iPhone that Claro ever did. Jamaicans are very trendy people of if LIME can offer the iPhone at a reasonable price while promoting it as fashionable, trendy and new, the swag loving public, young professionals and business execs will flock to to their stores.
