Tech tutorials, howtos and walkthroughs

As expected, today Google detailed it’s digital music store offering ingeniously named “Google Music”. Google music is not new as it had existed in beta form since the Google I/O in May but it has dropped the beta moniker and now is officially live but only to customer in the United States. I am not sure what the backroom dealings entailed to get record labels and artists to allow Google to sell their music but being only available in the US is already a BIG mistake in my eyes. It is definitely playing catch-up with the digital music behemoth known as iTunes and the giant known as the Amazon Music Store and  having only limited availability really hurts it’s potential especially seeing that Google is baked into the minds of many as a global brand. But enough of my whining, services like these are almost never available in countries like Jamaica but Europe? Australia? not even Canada!

The official Google blog and a live stream on Youtube detailed Google Music as a locker for your music in the clouds where you can discover, buy, play, organize and even share your music from anywhere. The snazzy interface  shows biographical info about artists and reviews from listeners with individual songs priced from 99 cents to $1.29. There are a bunch of specials involving artists lik Coldplay, Busta Rhymes, Rolling Stones and the belly dancing Queen with the hypnotic hips known to many as Shakira.

One very interesting feature of Google Music is an artist hub where unsigned or up and coming artists with full rights to their music can sell their wares on Google Music along with having access to a wealth of tools. I could rant on and on about how I think Google music could be more global even if they had to limit accessible content, the artist hub alone has huge global potential.
