In November 2007 the open handset alliance was announced between technology heavyweights like Samsung, Motorola, Spring, HTC, Intel, Texas Instruments and others, fast forward a few years later and the free, open source, Linux based Android operating system is now a powerhouse in the mobile computing world with it’s main rivals being Nokia’s Symbian, Apple’s iOS and Blackberry’s OS.

In is no secret that one of the biggest new battle grounds in the technology world is being fought in the tablet arena. Apple’s iPad has launched to critical success with competitors cuing up to take advantage of some of the flaws of the iPad while establishing a strong niche in the mobile computing mindset of consumers just above smartphones but below notebooks. Below is an embedded video of a preview of Android 3.0 code named Honeycomb which is expected to power a slew of tablets in the coming months.

    • the Motorola Xoom is the only one demoed running it so far but no tablet with android 3.0 is currently on the market.
